H.E. Iván Duque Márquez

President of Colombia 

He was born in Bogotá on August 1, 1976. He is a lawyer from Sergio Arboleda University, with major studies in philosophy and humanities. Expert in economic issues, with executive studies at Harvard, and with master’s degrees from Georgetown, in Public Policy Management, and from American University, in Economic Law.

He has served as a columnist and professor. He was the head of the Culture, Creativity and Solidarity division of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), leading themes of social innovation, entrepreneurship, youth, and creative economy. He was a consultant to the IDB presidency and a principal advisor for Colombia.

As Senator he took forward five laws of the Republic: the Orange Law, which promotes the creative industries and culture as a motor of development; the Law of layoffs, which allows the use of layoffs to prepay the education of children and dependents; the Law on Defibrillators, which requires the installation of rescuers in public places and in emergency transport in Colombia; the Law of ‘Empresas B’, which provides the conditions to create and develop commercial societies of Benefit and Collective Interest, and is co-author of the Law that extended maternity leave from 14 to 18 weeks.

He is the author of the books IndignAcción, ideas for Colombia del Futuro; Monetary Sins; Machiavelli in Colombia; Orange Effect; The Future Is in the Center; Archeology of my Father; and is co-author, along with Felipe Buitrago, of the book La Economía Naranja.

 

Iván Duque, in addition to his legislative activity, has distinguished himself in several areas of the country’s political current affairs. He was the one who drafted, presented and defended the lawsuit against the Legislative Act for Peace, before the Constitutional Court, which limited the fast track and allowed the Congress to make changes in the implementation of the agreements with the Farc. In 2016 he was chosen as one of the most outstanding leaders in the country by the Semana magazine and the Colombia Líder Foundation, and during his three years as a congressman he was elected as the best Senator by his own colleagues and by several local organizations that stand out and measure the work of Colombian legislators.

President Duque is married to Mrs. María Juliana Ruiz, with whom he has three children: Luciana, Matías and Eloísa.

On June 17, 2018, Iván Duque was elected President of Colombia for the constitutional period 2018 – 2022, with 10’398.689 votes, with a government program based on Legality, Entrepreneurship and Equity

Rodrigo Cortés Arango

Since January 2018, Rodrigo Cortés Arango has been serving as Country Manager for Waze in Google Colombia. He is a pioneer in this region representing Waze and he was commissioned to open more than 10 markets in LatAm. One of his most important roles is to expand and grow the team in the region.

Before joining Waze, Rodrigo led the new business team in Google LatAm from the Colombian office, and he was in charge of evangelizing thousands of businesses who were starting to invest

in digital.

Rodrigo has been working in sales, marketing and advertising for over 13 years with great experience in LatAm and Australia. He has a bachelor's degree in Social Communication from the Javeriana University in Colombia, and a masters degree in Commerce and Marketing from the University of New South Wales in Australia.

Karen Scarpetta

Karen Scarpetta is the General Manager for WeWork Colombia. As such, Scarpetta is in charge of supervising all issues regarding the business in Colombia and increasing brand awareness in the country as she is convinced of its potential in matters of innovation, creativity, and technology.

Karen has led the operations of different companies in several fields, such as retail, technology, startups, and education. She started off her career as the Divisional Sales Manager at KAM CO for Groupon, where she was in charge of the sales and operations for Bogotá City. Later on, she became the Country Product Manager at EF Education First, where she was responsible for the sales department, marketing, and operations of products nation-wide in Colombia.

Born in Colombia, Karen has built her professional career around the international business environment. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Griffith University, Australia, propelled by her passion to create a positive impact in the community.

As General Manager of Latin America, Canada & Caribbean Regions, World-Wide Public Sector at Amazon Web Services (AWS), Jeffrey Kratz is focused on advancing the adoption of cloud technology, specifically artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, machine-learning, and the Internet of Things (IoT). With over 25 years of global technology leadership experience, he spearheaded the creation of the business plan that enabled the AWS Public Sector organization to expand into these regions.

Jeffrey is often quoted in international press and speaks at public sector and economic industry events regarding global technology trends, channel ecosystem dynamics, and growth strategies.

He previously held a variety of executive positions with Microsoft for 20 years, finishing his time with the company as the General Manager, Global Channel Sales, WW Public Sector. Throughout his career, Jeffrey has been a catalyst to empower customers with advanced technologies to spark growth. He began his career working for Data Trek, Inc., a software start- up firm specializing in automation and information retrieval systems for corporate and public libraries.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science & Mathematics from Prinicipia College, located outside of St. Louis, Missouri, and completed graduate work at the Pepperdine University Graziado School of Business & Management.

Besides his innovation-driven start-up mentality, Jeffrey is a former elected official in Seattle, and is currently an FAA commercial pilot. He is also a member of the United States Soccer Federation, Aircraft Owner’s & Pilot’s Association, and the Seaplane Pilot’s Association. When he is not flying exploring the Pacific Northwest backcountry, Jeffrey can be found kayaking through the Puget Sound and other local waters.

He earned his undergraduate degree in Business Management from Jorge Tadeo Lozano University, and an E-Business Management degree from UIS.  In addition, Rubio has done several courses at Harvard University on financial inclusion. 

 

Rubio’s mission is to inspire millions of young people to change the world with the power of ideas and technology. Today he sets his objective from the business field but hopefully one day as the coach of a soccer team.  His personal motto is: “You run as fast as the dog that chases you.”

Julio Gaitán

Julio Gaitán joined SoftBank Group International as Partner to oversee the LatAm Operating Group in 2019. He is a former CEO with 23 years experience in technology, mobile-telecommunications and BPO industry in Latin America, Canada, US, Caribbean and Middle East.

While CEO at Grupo Accion he led a 2.5 year turn-around of the 4th largest employer in Colombia with 32,000 direct employees and increased gross margins by 22%. Prior to that he was the Head of Sales for Latin America and Canada for Kyocera Wireless Corp. Where he contributed to revenues of US$1.1 billion and a direct margin of US$242 million. In 2011 and 2012 Mr. Gaitán was chosen for LG Electronics' highly selective HiPo Global-Program, an opportunity granted to just 7 executives from Latin America.     

Mr. Gaitan was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia and has worked in the US for 10 years of his career. He graduated from the Universidad de los Andes with a degree in Industrial Engineering and participated in the Executive Education Program at Harvard Business School in 2009.

Sally Ng

Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs NBCUniversal International Networks,

Sally Ng is responsible for overseeing business and legal affairs matters for NBCUniversal International Networks, Latin America, and providing legal advice on a range of subjects from channel regulatory compliance, programming licensing and acquisitions, channel and content distribution, advertising, and marketing, among other areas.

She is also responsible for establishing a corporate reporting structure and managing internal relationships between all NBCUniversal entities across the Latin American region. Her responsibilities additionally include leading the identification of business opportunities in jurisdictions with regulatory challenges that may impact the company.

Considered a natural leader, Sally has an exceptional track record leading the multi-platform media business of NBCUniversal Networks in Latin America making it one of NBCUniversal’s most successful international divisions today. Prior to joining NBCUniversal International Networks, she held internal positions in other multi-national media companies such as Viacom International Media Networks and Fox International Channels, where she served as director and counsel of business and legal affairs, respectively, and was responsible for intellectual property, corporate affairs and content licensing agreements.

Sally Ng is a licensed attorney in the State of Florida, USA, as well as an English Solicitor. She holds a degree from Oxford Institute of Legal Practice, an Executive Education Certificate from Columbia University. Sally is fluent in English, Spanish and conversational Portuguese.
